The evening got exciting when a doe, then another, then another started working their way from the far end of the creek; about 80 yards away. About twenty minutes passed before they were literally straight down below me and to the left. Each of the does one by one walked the same footsteps that I had used to get to the stand earlier that afternoon.

As I turned to check their location one of the does spooked. Not bad, just kinda got nervous. Was it me? Was I busted? I froze and waited for things to unfold. You could hear a pin drop and the deer were all froze like statues.

Just then I heard a grunt just to my right. With my bow in hand I glanced right. There; not 20 feet away was an Illinois whopper, moving right to left. I couldn't believe that this buck appeared literally out of nowhere. I decided to pull back on the bow ever so slowly, since there was nothing between him and me but air. No tree limbs, no cover; just me and him.

I was ready at full draw and settling the pin on low on his chest. My index finger squeezed the trigger and launched the arrow through his chest and into the ground below him. Success was mine as I witnessed him drop less then fifty yards away.
